Your Expert Guide to Getting Reimbursed for Our Frames

One of our most common questions is: "Can I use my vision insurance at Choice Eyewear?" The simple answer is yes, most people can!

While we are not "in-network" with insurance providers, we make it simple for you to get reimbursed for your purchase.

As an independent, SF-based small business with over 20 years of experience, we've made a deliberate choice to operate this way. Here’s why it’s a huge benefit for you.

Our Commitment to Transparency & Value

Why aren't we "in-network"? Simple: it allows us to give you more freedom and better value.

  • No Markups: Insurance companies often require retailers to inflate prices. By staying independent, we can offer you our curated, hand-picked frames at a fair, transparent price without any hidden fees.

  • More Freedom: We aren't restricted by what insurance will cover. This means we can offer you a wider, more unique collection of frames and premium lenses.

  • No Red Tape: We can focus on what we do best: providing expert service and high-quality eyewear, not navigating insurance bureaucracy.

The 3-Step Guide to Getting Reimbursed

If your plan includes "Out-of-Network" (OON) benefits—which most PPO plans do—you can easily submit a claim for reimbursement.

Step 1: Place Your Order

  • Purchase your new glasses on our site. Every frame includes free, high-quality clear single-vision lenses. At the end, you will receive an order confirmation email.

Step 2: Get Your Itemized Receipt

  • This is the most important document. Your order confirmation email will work in most cases, but if your provider needs a more detailed, itemized receipt (with our business info, lens types, etc.), our expert team is here to help. Just contact us, and we will provide one for you immediately.

Step 3: Submit Your Claim Form

  • Fill out your insurance provider's "Out-of-Network Claim Form," which is almost always on their website. You'll attach our itemized receipt and submit it. Most providers let you do this online, and it's fast.

Your Top Questions, Answered by Our Experts

  • How Much Will I Get Back? This depends entirely on your plan's OON allowance. We've seen customers get anywhere from $30 to $150 back. The best way to know is to call your provider and ask, "What is my out-of-network reimbursement for prescription eyeglasses?"

  • How Long Does the Reimbursement Take? Once your claim is received, it usually takes your insurance provider 2 to 4 weeks to process and mail your reimbursement check. Check your member portal for the most accurate status updates.

  • What Do I Put for "Provider Name"? You will list "Choice Eyewear" and note that we are an "Online Retailer." If the form asks for an address, please use our business address: 745 Portola Drive, San Francisco, CA 94127

  • Does This Work for HSA/FSA, Too? Absolutely! You can use your HSA/FSA card directly on our site as a primary payment method. Read our full HSA/FSA guide here
