Why Prescription Glasses Can Take Time to Make

(And Why That Wait is a Very Good Thing)

You've found the perfect, hand-picked frame. You've placed your order. And now... you wait.

In a world of next-day shipping, it’s a fair question: "Why do my new glasses take a few days to arrive?"

As SF-based eyewear experts with over 20+ years of experience, we want to pull back the curtain. Prescription eyewear isn't just a product; it's a piece of custom medical equipment.

That "wait time" isn't a delay—it's craftsmanship. Here's the journey your glasses take from our lab to your door.

1. Your Lenses are Custom-Crafted for You

Unlike "ready-made" readers, your prescription lenses are made only for you. A "raw" lens blank is selected and then custom-ground using digital surfacing technology.

Your unique prescription (SPH, CYL, AXIS) is precisely ground to an accuracy of 0.01mm. This process is even more complex for progressives, bifocals, or high-prescription lenses that need to be specially thinned.

2. Lens Treatments Require Curing Time

This is the most time-intensive step. If you added any of our high-value coatings, each one is applied in a sterile environment and requires time to cure.

  • Anti-Reflective & Anti-Scratch Coatings: These are meticulously layered to reduce glare and protect your investment.

  • Blue Light Filtering: This special coating is bonded to the lens to filter out HEV light.

  • Photochromic Tints: These light-adaptive lenses are treated with a complex chemical process.

Rushing this step is not an option. It can lead to peeling, cloudiness, and distortion. We believe in doing it right.

3. We Conduct Rigorous Quality Checks

Before your lenses are ever placed in a frame, they go through multiple rounds of inspection. Our lab technicians cross-check the final lens against your exact prescription to ensure perfect accuracy and visual comfort.

4. Assembly is Done with Precision

Finally, our team carefully cuts the custom-made lenses to fit your exact frame. They are then mounted and meticulously aligned to your Pupillary Distance (PD).

This step is critical. Even a millimeter of misalignment can cause headaches or eye strain. This precision is part of our commitment to your health.

Our Promise: Quality is Worth the Wait

We totally get it—you’re excited to see clearly!

But creating a pair of high-quality prescription glasses is a custom craft. As a passionate, SF-based small business, we're not just "fulfilling an order." We're hand-picking your frame, overseeing the custom creation of your lenses, and ensuring everything is perfect.

Those few extra days are our promise to you: that your new eyewear is accurate, comfortable, and built to last.
